Ulrich on HR business alignment

20th Apr, 2010 to 20th Aug, 2010

From People Management magazine, 25th March 2010, page 11

At a recent event in London organised by BPO specialist Logica, Dave Ulrich stated that he believed HR were leading the way in making businesses more sustainable in the wake of the economic crisis.

He believes HR leaders were widening their focus to ensure all stakeholders were considered when making business decisions, from employees to customers and investors. Ulrich said that there appeared to be a genuine investment in long term skills for employees, developing a positive organisational culture, and developing a quality brand and leadership capabilities.
HR had demonstrated innovative solutions to managing the workforce in the recent downturn and this has helped raise the profile of HR as being able to add real value and deliver business benefits.

Ulrich warned that not all companies were moving in the right direction, he estimated 20% of companies were in a very good position and had created a HR model aligned to the business, 60% were working towards it, but 20% were never likely to get the message.

Transact HR agree with these comments, in that HR must develop a strategy and mind set to align their activities with the ever evolving needs of the business, and be flexible and innovative in the services it provides.
This is the real 'value add', which Transact HR can help businesses achieve by helping to develop a business focussed strategy and help them achieve it by streamlining their transactional work so that HR spend the minimum amount of time and resources on this to provide a world class service.
