The CBI has urged police forces to share back office functions, including HR and IT. The CBI have actually called for the move to be compulsory in order to save public money, and overseen by a single body, as the benefit case is so strong.
It also encourages greater use of private sector involvement in providing support services to free up resource and gain greater expertise in back office provision.
The Metropolitan Police force have already implemented shared services.
